Managua (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops of Nicaragua have not yet been invited to join the negotiating table that the representatives of the Government and the Civic Alliance started again last week (see Fides, 2/3/2019): says a statement issued by the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua (CEN) and sent to Agenzia Fides.
In an extraordinary assembly of the episcopate held yesterday, March 4, the Bishops were informed of the meeting held in Rome with the Holy Father on the protection of minors, but Cardinal Brenes who was interested in the crisis in Nicaragua, reported that, on the first day of the Dialogue table, where he was present, he told those present that the Bishops would have followed closely and participated in the negotiation sessions only after a specific request and a written invitation to be sent to CEN.
"We understand that we are not necessary for these negotiations", the Bishops write in the statement sent to Fides, "but in this historic moment for the country, our duty is to accompany the people in their sufferings and pains, in their hopes and joys and raise our prayers of intercession so that Nicaragua will find a path of civilization and justice again, for a peaceful solution, in view of the common good".
