Minya (Agenzia Fides) - In the Egyptian province of Minya, theater of the last Orthodox Coptic Christians massacre (see Fides, 5/11/2018), the jihadist frenzy does not destroy the manifestation of closeness and friendship that traditionally characterize the coexistence between Egyptians of Christian and Islamic faith. Precisely in Minya, on the occasion of the Mawlid (birth) of Prophet Muhammad, the Copt Imad Gerges, owner of the most famous pastry shop in the city, spread religious songs that recall the event of the birth of the initiator of Islam, and honored the feast of his fellow Muslims by selling typical cakes of the Islamic festivity. The city began to celebrate the Mawlid the night between Monday and Tuesday, November 20 with events and marches proceeded by flag bearers and tambourines, with the presence of the elderly and children.
Also in the school of the Franciscan sisters in Beni Suef, Superior Sister Veronica Najee, together with the director, Sister Nivina Halal and their sisters, distributed the cakes in honor of Muslim students and professors, involving also Christian school students in the celebrations for the Mawlid of Muhammad.
