Astana (Agenzia Fides) - Caritas Kazakhstan takes its first steps in a project linked to the world of drug addiction. This is what we read in a note sent to Agenzia Fides, which specifies how, following a recent meeting of the Episcopal Conference, the need to meet the needs of people involved in addictions from alcohol and drugs, through the creation of a special assistance, recovery and rehabilitation center.
This desire is linked to the need to "face a problem of considerable size: often, in fact, the support offered by state or private structures proves to be inadequate. People with addictions, after a short period, fall back into the previous condition".
"We are aware of the seriousness of such a challenge - the document states - however we accepted the request and we started to work, first of all to collect data on the situation in the country and to understand which methodologies are needed to tackle the problem. The next step is to start contacts with structures that already have a consolidated experience in the sector".
Reached by Agenzia Fides, the national head of Caritas Kazakh, Fr. Guido Trezzani, states: "we do not know how the project will take shape at an operational level. At the beginning we will probably create a single center for the whole country, then, eventually, the project can be replicated in different areas. We do not yet have the human and economic resources: we will start, as always, with so much enthusiasm and trust in the Providence of God".
Don Trezzani will take part in the International Congress on Addiction, held in Rome from 29 November to 1 December, which will be attended by experts from the world-wide sector: "It will be a unique opportunity for us to expand our knowledge in the sector and to establish contacts that will be extremely precious in the near future, in order to respond, in our perspective of Christian charity, to a problem that afflicts society", he concludes.
