Karachi (Agenzia Fides) - "It is urgent to promote inter-religious peace and harmony in the country. Radical groups are well organized and it is our duty to make more efforts to build peace and promote human rights": says to Agenzia Fides Mansha Noor Executive Secretary of Caritas in Karachi in the margins of a workshop held in Karachi, which brought together representatives of non-governmental organizations run by Christians and various ecclesial groups, especially young people.
Speaking to the participants, Mansha Noor said: "Christians are carrying out good works for the human development of the poor and the needy. We need to work for the progress of peace and harmony in the country to put an end to the culture of hatred, violence and discrimination".
The training program, organized by Caritas, was specifically intended to support the promotion of values such as peace, tolerance, brotherhood and inter-religious harmony. Rasheed Gill, animator of the "Justice and Peace" Commission in the Conference of Major Superiors of Pakistan, speaking to Fides, said: "The Church takes a step forward to train people and citizens who are committed to building a peaceful society. At the moment, the situation in the country is rather worrying.
Let us see what happened in the case of Asia Bibi, the Christian woman acquitted after a trial for blasphemy, let us see how giving a contribution to creating peace and harmony is necessary".
Gill remarked that "many times cases of blasphemy charges are mounted on false accusations because of personal disputes" and those present agreed on the urgency of a joint intervention, planning programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and inter-religious harmony in the country.
Kashif Anthony Javed, coordinator of the National Commission "Justice and Peace" of the Pakistani Bishops, said: "We must work harder on this mission and unite to build a society without any discrimination of caste and religion. It is necessary to put together people of different faiths and help them build fraternal relationships", emphasizing the need for a work that goes beyond the boundaries of religious communities. Collaboration and cooperation, noted Christopher Ashraf, representative of "Jesus Youth", can help change the mentality of young people. (AG) (Agenzia Fides, 15/11/2018)
