Cotonou (Agenzia Fides) - "Sexuality is a force that must be learned how to command and steered, otherwise it is like a car, if you cannot drive it, you will have accidents", write the Bishops of Benin in a note in which they give indications to adults and catechists on the teaching of sexuality, published at the end of their Ordinary Plenary Session which was held from October 21 to 24 in Bohicon, in the south of the Country.
The note was published together with a statement in which the Bishops expressed their concern about the introduction of sexuality and reproductive health programs in the country's educational system, which, in their opinion, effectively promote sexual permissiveness, contraception and homosexuality.
This is why the Episcopal Conference considered it necessary to provide a learning tool for educators and families to give them the opportunity to teach a correct view of sexuality.
"Sexuality - the Bishops underline - is a force present in man as in woman. It is not limited to corporeity but is present also in the spirit as in the heart".
"Sexuality comes from God. This means that we must live it as God wants", recall the Bishops citing the Old Testament.
Sexuality is a force that allows us to love. "This is its first and most important purpose. Sexuality without love does not make us happy", is what is pointed out in the document sent to Agenzia Fides.
It is therefore necessary to train the young generations to live it in the spirit of love, because "sexuality is like a house to be built. First of all, it is important to lay the foundations. If this is not solid, the building is destined to collapse". (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 26/10/2018)
