ASIA/TURKEY - A conference in Istanbul on Ecumenism and inter-religious dialogue in the Franciscan mission

Istanbul (Agenzia Fides) – From 15-29 October the XXIII Course of permanent formation for ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue in the Franciscan mission begins, organized in Istanbul by the Pontifical Antonianum University and the Institute of San Bernardino Ecumenical Studies.
The course includes reports that deepen the theme of Islamic-Christian dialogue in Turkey and the Middle East, in light of the famous meeting between St. Francis and the Sultan of Egypt Malik al Kamil, which took place in Damietta in 1219 (an episode which a report Father Gwenolé Jeusset ofm, president of the International Franciscan Commission for Relations with Muslims will focus on). Among the speakers of the days of study are: Sister Sylvie Robert, professor of theology at the Sèvres-Faculty Center of the Jesuits in Paris (who will also dedicate a report to real data and common places circulating regarding the expansion of Islam in the world), Greek Catholic Bishop Dimitrios Salakas, Apostolic Exarch emeritus of Greece, and father Claudio Monge op, head of the Dominican Cultural Center in Istanbul. From Thursday 25 to Sunday 29 October, the participants will take part in a pilgrimage to Antioch, Tarsus and the region of Cappadocia, led by Bishop Ruben Tierrablanca ofm, Apostolic Vicar of Istanbul.
