AFRICA/BURUNDI - Appointment of the Rector of "Saint Charles Lwanga" Theological Seminary in Kiryama

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 21 June 2018 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed the rev. Fr. Giscard Hakizimana, of the archdiocesan clergy of Gitega as Rector of the Saint Francis Lwanga Interdiocesan Theological Seminary in Kiryama, in the diocese of Bururi, Burundi.
The new Rector was born on July 15, 1977 in Muhororo, province of Gitega. In 1991 he entered the minor Seminary of Mugera, then, after his military service, he attended the preparatory Seminary in Burasira. He studied philosophy at the Saint Curé d'Ars Major Seminary in Bujumbura and theology at the University of Eichatatt (Germany). He was ordained a priest on July 26, 2008. He then continued his studies for a Ph.D. in biblical exegesis, which he achieved in 2013. He then taught at the University of Ausburg and was simultaneously parish Vicar in the diocese of Eichstatt. Since September 2016 he has been Director of the Biblical Apostolate (DAB), Professor of Sacred Scripture at the Kiryama Major Seminary and National Coordinator of the Biblical Apostolate.
