Bkerké (Agenzia Fides) - A total of 41 Maronite Christian couples on Sunday 2 September celebrated the sacrament of marriage together in Bkerké, at the headquarters of the Maronite Patriarchate, in the now traditional collective wedding ceremony organized for the ninth consecutive year by the Maronite League.
The couples came from several parishes in Lebanon. Families members of the couples and also several representatives of the Maronite League, starting from president Antoine Klimos, took part in the rite, presided by Maronite Patriarch Boutros Bechara Rai. In his homily, Patriarch Rai indicated the sacrament of marriage as the source of grace that makes starting a family and walking together for life possible for the spouses.
The Maronite League is an organization founded in the seventies to support the Maronite identity and presence in Lebanon and in the world. Every year the organism promotes the celebration of "collective marriage" in Bkerkè as an occasion and a sign of encouragement addressed above all to young Christians who begin the adventure of starting together a new family, in the not always easy circumstances that characterize the political and social situation in the Land of Cedars.
