Maumere (Agenzia Fides) - The feast of St. Camillus de Lellis, patron saint of the sick, doctors, nurses and hospitals, is celebrated on July 14. The Camillian religious together with the universal Church commemorate this special day with much gratitude to God, manifesting God's merciful love for the sick.
"For this occasion, Provincial Superior, Father Jose P. Eloja, MI, together with Provincial Vicar, Father Rodel Enriquez, MI, from the Philippines and Fathers Giovanni Contarin and Peter of the Camillian community from Thailand have gathered to celebrate this special day on the island of Flores, in Maumere", says Camillian father Mushtaq Anjum to Fides.
"On the occasion of this day ten young people began their postulancy while six others joined the novitiate, offering their commitment to Christ, in the footsteps and teachings of St. Camillus in serving the sick even at the risk of their own lives.
The Camillian mission on the island of Flores was started in 2010 by Fr.Luigi Galvani, together with the local Indonesian Camillians. "Religious nuns, families, friends, relatives and seminarians took part in the Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr. Luigi, concelebrated by 16 priests of different congregations. In all, over 400 people ", says Fr. Mushtaq.
"The annual celebration of the feast of St. Camillus reminds us that the Camillians have made a commitment to serve the sick. We pray that every Camillian 'puts more heart in these hands' so that we can serve Christ and the sick in a more loving and compassionate way", the missionary concludes.
