Bangui (Agenzia Fides) - "We are outraged by the statement published by an organization called "The League for the defense of the Church in Central Africa", in which one wants to put in place projects that are contrary to the Gospel, to the ideals of the Church and to its commitment in Central Africa", says a statement by the Central African Episcopal Commission (CAEC) that warns the faithful about a statement that has been circulating on the Internet for a few days in the name of an unreal "League for the defense of the Church", in which Christians are incited to take revenge against Muslims.
The Bishops recall the faithful not give in to hatred and confessional manipulations to destabilize the Country, recalling that the crisis in the Central African Republic is not confessional but political.
"The Bishops of the Central African Republic want Central Africans to be vigilant. There are always enemies of peace who want to create a conflict between Christians and Muslims to show that Christians and Muslims cannot live together in Central Africa", says the CAEC press release.
In reiterating that the Church cannot in any way have relations with the alleged "League for the defense of the Church", the Bishops denounce at the same time the immobility of state authorities in the face of the recent killings of four Catholic priests, who fought for the reconciliation and pacification of the country, the last of whom is the Vicar General of Bambari, Mgr. Firmin Gbagoua, killed on 29 June (see Fides 3/7/2018). (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 12/7/2018)
