Bombouaka (Agenzia Fides) - The "San Luigi Orione" Center of Bombouaka, in Togo, celebrated its 50th anniversary on July 7th: it is a centre of excellence that in recent years has become a point of reference for the entire north of the country. Today the Center, founded in 1968 in the Diocese of Dapaong, offers various services including: specialist consultations in various fields, physical rehabilitation service, psychomotor and speech therapy service, analysis and radiology laboratory, orthopedic laboratory. According to the information sent to Agenzia Fides, two priests and a trainee serve in this structure, entrusted to the Orions in 1987. In Bombouaka there is also a community of the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity. The religious men and women of Don Orione collaborate together.
"What has developed in half a century in Bombouaka - explains Father Alain Kini, director of the orionine center in the note sent to Fides - could be called the 'village of charity', as it is undoubtedly one of the most developed works we manage in Africa , and in Togo it is considered a center of excellence, initially born as a hostel to accommodate children with mobility problems and allow them to attend the local school, which they could not do while staying in their villages. Immediately we saw the need to open the doors to all children with disabilities, so the San Luigi Orione Centre has multiplied in recent years, becoming a point of reference for the whole population of northern Togo".
"The Center - concludes Father Kini - has always shown love not only for its children, but also for the entire Togolese population and other countries through its humanitarian actions, such as surgical operations that are carried out each year thanks to some Spanish partners. This simply says that our Center is at everyone’s service and, in addition to medical care, we are also concerned with the development and social integration of people with disabilities".
