Singapore (Agenzia Fides) - Catholics and Christians of other confessions have gathered in prayer, in several churches in Singapore, in view of the summit between the US and North Korea on the agenda tomorrow, 12 June in Singapore. Catholic Archbishop of Singapore William Goh is encouraging Catholics to pray for the upcoming US-North Korea Summit. As stated, the initiative is in tune with the appeal launched by Pope Francis in yesterday’s Angelus, 10 June. In view of the historic handshake between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, scheduled for June 12, Mgr. Goh invokes "the abundant grace of the Lord" on the expected meeting. The special prayer for the summit reads: "Lord, we pray You will enlighten the political leaders to work for peace, justice and social order in the world. May this be the start of a continuous effort to building strong relationships, freed from the burden of fear and the weight of suspicion. May nations learn to trust each other and work towards world peace for all humankind". Furthermore, Archbishop Goh invokes the intercession of the Virgin Mary. "You are our Mirror of justice and Seat of Wisdom: we entrust this summit to you. Holy Spirit, guide the leaders and the officials.
Yesterday, Sunday, June 10, during the Angelus, Pope Francis said: "In friendship and in prayer, I wish again to have a particular thought reach the beloved Korean people. May the talks that will take place in the coming days at Singapore be able to contribute to the development of a positive course, which ensures a future of peace for the Korean Peninsula and for the whole world".
