AFRICA/BURKINA FASO - New bishop of Dédougou appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father Francis appointed today Bishop of Dédougou (Burkina Faso), reverend Prosper Bonaventure Ky, of the clergy of the same diocese, until now standing secretary of the African Clergy in Burkina Faso and director of the House for student priests in Ouagadougou.
The new bishop was born 10 January 1965 at Toma, Diocese of Dédougou. Ha completed his studies in Philosophy and Theology at Saint Jean-Baptiste major seminary at Wayalgê (Ouagadougou) and at Saint Pierre Claver Major seminary in Koumi (Bobo-Dioulasso). He obtained a doctorate in Psychology in Rome, at the Pontifical Salesian University. He was ordained a priest 23 July 1994 for the diocese of Dédougou.
Since his ordination he has ministered as follows : 1994 to 1998: Professor at the Minor Seminary, in Nasso (Bobo Dioulasso); from 1999 to 2000: Vice parish priest at Dédougou Cathedral; 2000 to 2003: Docent and rector at the Minor Seminary in Tionkuy (Dédougou); 2003 to 2010: studies in Rome for a doctorate at the Pontifical Salesian University; 2010 to 2012: Vice parish priest at Toma; since 2012: Permanent Secretary of the African Clergy in Burkina Faso and director of the House for student priests in Ouagadougou.
