ASIA/INDIA - Resignation of the Bishop of Quilon and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Today the Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of the Diocese of Quilon (India), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Stanley Roman. The Holy Father has appointed Mgr. Paul Antony Mullassery, of the clergy of Quilon, currently Vicar General of the aforementioned circumscription as Bishop of the same Diocese.
Rev. Mgr. Paul Antony Mullassery, was born in Kaithakody on January 15th 1960, in the Diocese of Quilon, he studied at St. Raphael Minor Seminary in Quilon, in Trinity Lyceum and, finally, Philosophy and Theology at St. Joseph's Pontifical Seminary in Alwaye. He obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on December 22, 1984 for the clergy of the Diocese of Quilon.
Since his priestly ordination he has held the following positions: Parish vicar of St. Michael's Church in Kumbalam (1985-1986); Parish priest of Three Kings' Church in Vadakkumthala (1986-1987); Parish priest of St. Joseph's Church in Padappakara (1987-1988); Deputy Director of the Catechesis and Bible Apostolate and Prefect at St. Raphael Minor Seminary of Quilon (1988-1990); Studies in Canon Law in Rome (1990-1994); Parish priest of Infant Jesus Cathedral, Quilon (1995-2002); since 1995 Judge of the diocesan Tribunal; Chancellor of the Diocese (1997-2006); Parish priest of Holy Cross Church in Tangasseri (2002-2004); Rector of St. Raphael's Seminary of Quilon (2004-2006); Pro-Vicar General of Quilon (2006-2010); Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Care (2006-2012); Judicial Vicar of Quilon (2013-2017); Spiritual Director of St. Raphael's Seminary of Quilon (2014-2017); since 2017 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Quilon.
