Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - Despite being a working day, the parish of the Holy Trinity, in the city of Jiu Jiang, Jiang Xi province, in mainland China, is crowded with faithful of all ages since this morning, March 9th: not only for the morning mass, but also to celebrate the Way of the Cross, to approach the sacrament of Confession and for the Eucharistic Adoration. In this way the local community participates in the 24 Hours initiative for the Lord, in communion with the Pope and the universal Church. As Agenzia Fides learns from the Catholic information service Faith of HeBei, during the solemn procession of the Via Crucis, led by local parish priest Fr. Pang Rui, the faithful meditated together inspired by the verse of Psalm 130 "There is forgiveness with you" , and then "without His sacrifice, there is no hope for us to free ourselves from the power of evil". The community of the baptized is offering prayers of Adoration, like many other communities scattered in the nation.
The 24-hour prayer initiative for the Lord, launched five years ago, has a special meaning for the Chinese continental Catholic community. Chinese Catholics live it as a way to spiritually join the Pope and the universal Church. This is why it is carefully prepared: vigils are organized, Lenten spiritual retreats are held as well as prayer meetings, pilgrimages and processions. The faithful constantly follow the Pope's activity through new communication technology, Internet sites, social networks and, in this circumstance, they follow with full spiritual participation the penitential celebration that Pope Francis presides today in Saint Peter's, making it a favorable opportunity.of communion, in order to be close and pray together with the Holy Father.
