Baghdad (Agenzia Fides) – The participation in the upcoming political elections, scheduled for May 12, represents "a national and moral duty" and an opportunity to advance Iraq on the path of democracy, stability and justice. This is what the Patriarchate of Babylon of the Chaldeans highlighted, inviting all Iraqis to verify or renew their registration on the electoral lists, and then contribute, with their vote, to choosing the "best candidates" able to serve the Country in the next parliament.
There are at least 9 small political groups animated by Christian leaders and militants who will take part in the next elections, competing to win the 5 seats - distributed individually in the 5 provinces of Baghdad, Kirkuk, Erbil, Dohuk and Nineveh - that the system of quotas has reserved for Christian minorities.
