AFRICA/MOROCCO - Resignation of the Archbishop of Rabat and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On December 29, 2017 the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Rabat (Morocco), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Vincent Landel, S.C.I. The Pope appointed Fr. Cristóbal López Romero, S.D.B., currently Provincial of the Salesian Province of Maria Auxiliadora in Spain, as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Rabat.
The new Bishop was born on May 19, 1952 in Vélez-Rubio Diocese of Almeria Spain. He entered the Salesian Family in 1964. After completing his secondary education studies at the Salesian Seminary in Gerona, he entered the Salesian Seminary in Barcelona, where he studied Philosophy (1973-1975) and Theology (1975-1979). He obtained a Licentiate in Information Sciences, Journalism section, at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1982).
He was ordained a priest on May 19, 1979.
Since his priestly ordination he has carried out the following pastoral roles: 1979-1984: Ministry in favor of the marginalized in La Verneda, in Barcelona; 1984-1986: Youth pastoral in the Salesian College of Asunción (Paraguay); 1986-1992: Provincial Delegate for vocational youth ministry in Asunción; 1991-1992: Director of the Salesian Bulletin in Asunción; 1992-1994: Parish priest in Asunción; 1994-2000: Provincial of the Salesian Province of Paraguay; 2000-2002: Director of the Community, pastoral and professor in the College of Asunción; 2002-2003: Ministry in the Missions in Paraguay; 2003-2011: Director of the Community, of parish and scholastic pastoral in the Center for professional formation in Kénitra, Morocco; 2011-2014: Provincial of the Salesian Province of Bolivia; since 2014: Provincial of the Salesian Province of María Auxiliadora in Spain.
