Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - According to Colombian National Police, Sister Gloria Cecilia Narvaez, a Colombian nun of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate, seized in February in Karangasso, Southern Mali (see Fides 8/2/2017 ), is in bad health condition. General Fernando Murillo, director of the "Grupos de Acción Unificada de la Libertad Personal" (GAULA) national Police, told Colombian radio RCN that the religious has health problems: "She is alive but not in good health. She has problems with a leg and a kidney".
The General also informed that a second GAULA mission is being prepared, which will go to the African country to gather as much information as possible in order to contribute to the release of the religious, always with the help of international bodies.
At the time of the kidnapping, Fr. Edmond Dembele, Secretary General of the Bishops' Conference of Mali, stated to Fides: "The kidnappers arrived on 7 February in a location a bit far from the village where Sister Cecilia and her sisters were. They broke into the missionary center and plundered money and computer equipment. They then escaped with the ambulance of the medical center with the nun, to reach the place where they had left their scooters and immedialtely went away.
