Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) – A Pygmy massacre was carried out in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to a statement from CEPADHO (a local NGO) to Agenzia Fides, on September 2, some ADF guerrillas (a Ugandan guerrilla group working in the area) attacked the Vemba Pygmy Camp, which is located 17 km north-east of the city of Beni, in North Kivu.
"According to the latest news sent to CEPADHO, during the incursion, terrorists decapitated and killed 8 Pygmies, including 3 women and one child. They fired at all the huts, reducing the Pygmy camp to ashes", says the statement sent to Agenzia Fides.
In another statement, CEPADHO denounces the growing climate of insecurity in the Baswagha-Madiwe area (always in North Kivu) caused by the group of bandits who escaped from Kangbayi's jail on June 11th.
Several DRC provinces live in an insecure state while the Country is struggling due to the political impasse caused by the failure to implement the New Year Agreement to hold presidential elections by the end of the year. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 5/9/2017)
