Barranquilla (Agenzia Fides) - Child labor exploitation in Colombia is punishable: from 3 to 7 years in prison. According to the police which deals with the country's childhood and adolescent, about 869,000 children work at night, mainly in the agricultural and commercial sector of illegal mining and are engaged in informal jobs. The cities with the highest child labor index are Sincelejo, Neiva and Pasto. Minors are engaged in recycling, construction work and public market. For example, in Barranquilla, the inhabitants encounter so many children walking in the evening with carts full of recycling or other materials for building houses. In the public market, many adolescents, stop working when they see the patrol lights, for fear of being held by the police. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 11/7/2017)
