Yaoundé (Agenzia Fides) - The President of the Bishops Conference of Cameroon, His Exc. Mgr. Samuel Kleda, Archbishop of Douala, during a meeting with journalists convened on July 8 at the Episcopal Conference, reiterated the Bishops' opinion regarding the death of His Exc. Mgr. Jean Marie Benoît Bala, Bishop of Bafia, whose body was found in the waters of the River Sanaga on June 2nd. In their statement on June 13 (see Fides, 14/6/2017), the Bishops said: Bishop Bala was "brutally murdered".
On July 4, a statement by the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal informed that at the end of the autopsy carried out by two legal practitioners, who came from abroad, on the Bishop's body, no evidence of violence was found, and therefore "drowning is the most likely cause of the Bishop's death". Even local doctors, who had carried out the previous autopsies, confirmed the cause of his death due to drowning. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 10/07/2017)
