EUROPE/SPAIN - 50 years at the service of the evangelization of the world of work

Avila (Agenzia Fides) - "Land, Roof and Work for a dignified life" is the motto of the International Seminar and the General Assembly of the World Catholic Movement Workers (WCMW) which will be held in Spain from July 15-21, at the University of Mystic in Avila. 120 delegates representing Catholic movements of workers from 42 countries will gather in the University.
This is a very important moment in the history of WCMW, as it celerates 50 years of commitment with the evangelization of the world of work.
According to the note sent to Agenzia Fides, during the International Seminar, to be held from 15th to 18th of July, the focus will be set on the issues of how to build a solidary society, the current threats to human dignity and the situation of the right to work, analysed from the perspective of the employment situation of the workers and that knowledge provided by the delegates of the regions of the World Catholic Movement Workers (WCMW) of the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe. During the inauguration we will have the Mayor and the Bishop of Avila, as well as other political, trade union and eclesiastical prominent figures. Mayor Josè L. Rivas and the Bishop of Avila, Mgr. Jesus Garcia Burillo will attend the inauguration of the seminar, as well as other political, trade union and eclesiastical prominent figures to speak about the world employment situation, the trends, the present and the past. Pope Francis´ perspective on human work shall be presented by Bishop Antonio A. Algora, of the Workers´ Pastoral of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.
During the General Assembly, from 19 to 21 July, the activities carried out during the past 4 years will be evaluated, elections will be held for for the renewal of the executive offices, moreover, the approval of the Action Plan and proposals for actions for WCMW for the next four years will take place. The President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Ricardo Blázquez Perez, Archbishop of Valladolid, will participate in the Assembly. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 5/7/2017)
