Aysen (Agenzia Fides) - "In Patagonia we always say that we are united in good and bad times, in moments of difficulty: United with the families of Jorge and Enrique, miners, authorities, companies, the whole population": with these words, Mgr. Luigi Infanti della Mora, OSM, Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Aysén encouraged participants in a Mass celebrated for the miners who have been trapped under ground for 18 days. According to the note sent to Fides, the celebration was very much felt by the many present: family members, authorities and members of the group who continue to work to reach the place where they are buried.
At the end of the celebration, General Fernando San Cristóbal, head of the rescue team, said: "Unfortunately, it is impossible to find Jorge Sánchez and Enrique Ojeda alive. After 18 days of tireless effort, the committed team will continue to work on the forefront. Unfortunately, the analysis of various experts, based on the use of different techniques, allows us to ensure, with all due respect, that they cannot be found alive. We ask the media to be respectful of this moment of pain".
The case of the two trapped miners has become a national case, because Chile is living the memory of the story of the group of miners that they managed to save a few years ago (see Fides 13/10/2010): we are talking about 33 miners who were trapped for 67 days at 700 meters in depth, in the San Jose (Copiapó) mine.
Last night, through a statement, the Compagnia Minera Cerro Bayo confirmed that "there is no way of finding Jorge Sánchez and Enrique Ojeda alive", blocked underground for an accident that happened on 9 June. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 28/06/2017)
