Padua (Agenzia Fides) - "In recent days, Fao, Unicef and Wfp (World Food Program) have officially declared the famine to be over. Perhaps, maybe in the capital Juba! Surely not in Yirol, Rumbek, Cueibet, Maper or in any of the over 90 health centers where we are committed, with our local colleagues, where were we still have to face a dramatic situation". This is what d. Dante Carraro, Director of Medici with Africa Cuamm said, who last night left for south Sudan just 2 months after the last mission in the country.
"In rural areas, especially in the north of the country, in the former Lakes and Unity state, it is still hard to find food - writes d. Dante in the note sent to Fides -. South-Sudanese pound is now scrap paper, poverty is serious and rampant, you see more and more weapons and insecurity increases.
The other day one of our cars, in Wulu County (former Lakes state), was attacked. They did not touch our staff, they were looking for dollars or food. Every means is good to find food for the family!"
"In a context like this we need to be united, compact, to support each other", concludes the priest. We have a lot of staff, local and international, committed to helping many mothers and children. Where night seems to prevail it is necessary to cultivate presences and signs of hope!". (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 27/6/2017)
