Città del Vaticano (Agenzia Fides) – Omnis Terra, the multilingual publication of culture and mission from the Pontifical Mission Societies, is on line with its second edition. The opening article “Le Laos et le sang des Martyrs”, by Roland Jacques, OMI, draws from the beatification of 17 martyrs, celebrated in Vientiane 11 December 2016, to describe the travailed history of this tiny Asian Church. To follow “From outsider to President: 100 days of Donald Trump” by Andrew Spannaus, and then Gianni Valente presents “L’arte di frate Sidival Fila”, a French artist who recycles poor and obsolete materials in his work . “Nei suoi lavori, l'ordito “grezzo” della materia ridiviene il luogo dello svelarsi della gratuità delle cose”.
Jesuit Fr. Stanislaus Jebamalai and Antony Arulraj are the authors of “India’s Demonetization and its impact on the poor”, while Luis Badilla takes us to the other side of the world to Colombia, preparing for a visit by the Pope, to take a close look at the process of national reconciliation. Rouphael Zgheib, on the other hand tells about “La présence chrétienne en Liban” and Fr. Silvano Zoccarato, PIME, shares with us his experience of 50 years of diocese twinning between the Italian diocese of Treviso and the Catholic Mission in Amban, Cameroon.
Reflections and experience of a parish priest in Buenos Aires with street children, are found in the article “De donde puede nacer una esperanza para los Chicos de la Calle” by Adrian Bennardis. Again from Latin America, Bolivia, we have the testimony of Italian layman Giovanni Forasacco, who passed “Dall’amore per il creato all’amore per gli ultimi” living a missionary experience in the Amazon forest. Whereas Mélanie Njonou, retired state employee in Cameroon, to overcome poverty and inequality opened a Hazienda based on the principles of the Gospel.
With “Vivre la joie de l’Évangile” Pierre Diarra guides us in the reading of Pope Francis’ “Evangelii Gaudium” highlighting indications to find the way to announce the Gospel in a new manner in the various different social and geographical contexts of our day .
The hundredth anniversary of the foundation of the Pontifical Mission Union offered an opportunity to reflect on the nature the role and the importance for today of this Mission Society, with the contributions of various specialists presented in the volume “Mission makes the Church” Fr. Fabrizio Meroni, PIME.
Again this secondo issue of Omnis Terra is enriched by a selection of photographs by Monika Bulaj, on the theme “Egitto: la simbiosi antica tra islam e cristianesimo”. “In Egitto, se vuoi liberarti dal male, è dai cristiani che devi andare. I musulmani lo sanno. Il popolo cerca la Croce, Maria Vergine, San Giorgio e soprattutto i santoni della chiesa copta. E’ questa promiscuità millenaria, sconosciuta all’Occidente e alla Chiesa di Roma, che gli attentatori hanno voluto colpire” – “In Egypt if you desire to free yourself from evil, to the Christians you must go. This is well known to Muslims. The people seek the Cross, Holy Mary, Saint George and above all the great early saints of the Coptic Church. Is it this thousand year old promiscuity, unknown to the West and the Church of Rome, which terrorists want to strike ” (ndr ). (SL) (Agenzia Fides 13/6/2017)
