AFRICA/CENTRAL AFRICA - Muslim refugees in the mosque in Bangassou welcomed in the cathedral and seminary

Bangui (Agenzia Fides) - According to the UN 26 people died in the attack in Bangassou, in the southeast of the Central African Republic, due to a hundred anti Balaka. The Central African Red Cross believes the toll could be higher, at least 150 dead.
Anti Balaka attacked Tokoyo, the Muslim majority neighborhood of the city. Cardinal Dieudonné Nzapalainga, Archbishop of Bangui and His Exc. Mgr. Juan José Aguirre Muños, Bishop of Bangassou, intervened to allow a thousand Muslim faithful who had fled to the local mosque to leave the place of worship.
During the evacuation, gunshots were fired that hit and killed the Imam of the mosque, who was next to Mgr. Aguirre. Thanks to the intervention of the Portuguese "Blue Helmets" of the UN Mission in Central Africa (MINUSCA), the displaced managed to leave the mosque in order to be transferred to the cathedral and the local seminary.
