Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - "The difficult situation in the country and in various contexts marked by the difficulties experienced by Venezuela have imposed the convocation of the 43rd Extraordinary Plenary Assembly of the Bishops of Venezuela from May 16 to 18 at the seat of the Venezuelan Bishops' Conference (CEV)", reads a statement of CEV sent to Agenzia Fides.
"The Bishops of Venezuela - continues the text – will meet in this Extraordinary Assembly to make a pastoral analysis of the current situation of the country, in order to list the challenges for the Church's evangelizing action in the present context. The last extraordinary meeting was held in 2011, when Venezuela was preparing for elections to choose a new National Assembly, amid profound controversies".
The statement concludes: "At the end of this 43rd Plenary Assembly, the Venezuelan Bishops will publish a Pastoral Exhortation, fruit of the encounter, dialogue and prayer, in which discernment and pastoral action will trace a path for Venezuela that wants peace, justice and truth. CEV Press Office, May 16, 2017". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 17/05/2017)
