AMERICA/HONDURAS - Migrants: those repatriated from the US are 30 percent more compared to 2016

Tegucigalpa (Agenzia Fides) - More than five thousand Hondurans have been deported from the US, this figure exceeds the number of returnees in the first quarter of 2016. In the note sent by Fides Digital press service of the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa, the head of the Pastoral of Human Mobility of the archdiocese, Sister Isabel Arantes, confirmed that the number of repatriated nationals from the United States is 30 percent higher than that recorded in the first quarter of 2016.
The religious claims that the cause must be sought in the new US immigration policies, which is why she calls on Honduran authorities to provide more support to those who are still illegal in the United States. "To those who have returned, better treatment must be given and if possible, opportunities for employment, since unemployment is a major cause of migration", she adds in the note sent to Agenzia Fides.
Because of this phenomenon, the second UMAR (Unidad Municipal de Atención al Migrante Retornado, was opened in the capital, to welcome and assist children, adolescents and families who have returned with their shattered dream.
UMAR, state agencies in which pastoral workers of the Church are present, are offering good service: the first was opened in San Pedro Sula and there is the possibility that others will be opened in Choloma, La Ceiba and Tocoa, to offer psychological support, social , health care and job training.
