Caacupé (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishop of the Diocese of Caacupé, His Exc. Mgr. Claudio Giménez Medina, said that "many are guilty of what happened, usually those who exercise authority, but especially those who lead the Country, the various branches of government: executive, legislative and judicial". Mgr. Giménez made these statements at the end of the Mass celebrated last Sunday, April 2, in the basilica of Caacupé in front of many faithful.
"I think - he said they are the first responsible of leading the people to the ways of justice. There is no doubt. But political parties are responsible, in particular those who want to violate the Constitution. The respective leaders of these parties, who have failed to listen to the concerns of our people, in particular, the voice of the Catholic Church, which has repeatedly declared that the Constitution and laws must be observed".
"I repeat - concluded the Bishop - that the three branches of government are responsible for the situation, let us not try to shift the blame to others. The authorities that govern us are the real culprits, no doubt".
The note sent to Fides from a local source stresses that Mass is broadcast on television (Channel 9) at a national level, but at the moment the Bishop’s homily has been interrupted and is resumed only later. The ongoing tension in the country, the interior minister and police chief were dismissed after the arrest of four officers accused of killing a 25-year-old protester during demonstrations against the "golpe de estado parlamentario" the constitutional reform that opens the way for the re-election of current President Horactio Cartes (see Fides 29/03/2017).
