Bariloche (Agenzia Fides) - A group of social organizations of the Movement for Children of Bariloche, a town in northwestern Patagonia in the foothills of the Andes, has issued a statement expressing their opposition to the proposal of the national government to lower the punishable age of adolescents.
The data released on the situation in the city shows that almost 40% of teenagers leave school before finishing. In the city there are more than 12,000 boys, girls and adolescents below the poverty line, of these 4,000 are indigent. Bariloche is also high on the list of drug-related complaints in the province and that the retail in neighborhoods is often the first and only work of young people who remain unpunished and protected by criminal gangs.
"Adolescents are not dangerous. They are in danger! Bariloche must not lower the age limit for criminal liability of adolescents", points out a statement signed by the Movement. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 21/03/2017)
