Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - From 7 to 9 March the annual meeting of CELAM (Latin American Episcopal Council) with the secretaries-general of the 22 countries of Latin America and the Episcopal Conferences Caribbean takes place in Bogota, at the headquarters of the Colombian Episcopal Conference. Attention will be focused on the revision of the pastoral and missionary path of CELAM, in particular the work carried out from August 2016 to February 2017, and the proposals to achieve the theme of this year 2017: "a poor Church for the poor". Every day there is a "lectio divina" on the theme, and Latin American theologian Father Gustavo Gutiérrez was invited to give a lecture.
As informs the note sent to Fides, what is needed is to find common points among the regions that make up Latin America and the Caribbean, to exchange and articulate meaningful experiences in the fight against poverty and pastoral proposals to realize Pope Francis’ appeal: "a poor Church for the poor". The meeting will conclude with a visit to the "Minuto de Dios" University, as a model for the fight against poverty through education imparted by Eudists fathers. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 08/03/2017)
