Khartoum (Agenzia Fides) - Health workers in eastern Sudan have reported the onset of new cases of cholera in different areas of the State. According to local sources, the epidemic is under control, civil society organizations continue to engage in the fight against the disease, in addition to the distribution of drugs by state health institutions in different health facilities. In late January, the Federal Ministry of Health recorded 333 cases in the States of El Gedaref, Red Sea, Khartoum. However, the Sudanese government persists in defining the disease, which broke out six months ago in some areas of eastern Sudan and El Gezira, as acute diarrhea instead of cholera. According to specialists, including the Executive Committee of doctors, the results of laboratory tests carried out in January on samples of acute diarrhea in Ahmed Gasim Hospital in Khartoum proved that it is cholera.
