AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Cardinal Urosa: "We must hold elections, the agreements must be respected"

Thursday, 23 February 2017

Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - No representative of the Catholic Church in Venezuela will participate in the round table for dialogue between the government and the opposition, until the electoral path announced last year is not activated and which to date has not been initiated by the National Electoral Council. This is what Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, Archbishop of Caracas, in the church of Chiquinquira, in the city of Caracas said yesterday after celebrating Mass with a group of pensioners who ask the national government to grant a subsidy to this sector, as informs the note sent to Fides.
"The agreements reached at the meeting on 30 October must be respected. Apparently it is said that the elections are not important, and the National Electoral Council will not convene regional elections, which had to be held last year. Elections have to be held as soon as possible", reaffirmed the Cardinal. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 23/02/2017)
