Maracaibo (Agenzia Fides) - In the Venezuelan peninsula of La Guajira smuggling fuel is an alternative for survival that in particular sees children involved. From 8 in the morning thousands of young children start to work. At the border, in fact, gasoline prices are very high. To fill a tank in Venezuela costs just over $ 1, $ 28 in Colombia. Consequently, in a land like that of La Guajira this market provides a living. Despite the increase, the cost of gasoline in Venezuela continues to be the lowest in the world. Since December 2016, fuel is sold at international prices at the border in order to prevent smuggling. However, it continues to be a profitable business that involves many children who leave school in order to survive in a land where there are not many options for moving forward in a country where the economic crisis is affecting one of the vital necessities of human beings: nutrition.
