La Guajira (Agenzia Fides) - Despite the precautionary measures taken by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the Wayuu indigenous people continue to suffer from malnutrition. The complaint comes from the leader of the community, who in an interview to a local radio program, has accused the Colombian government of omission with respect to the situation of malnutrition in 2016 that caused the death of at least 100 children. In 2015, IACHR urged precautionary measures to safeguard the Wayuu people, but children continue to die. The indigenous community is located in the north of Colombia on the border with Venezuela, in the desert region of La Guajira department. It is estimated that there is a population of 300,000 people. The Wayuu are known internationally for their craftsmanship. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 14/02/2017)
