Wednesday, 8 February 2017

Bamako (Agenzia Fides) - A Colombian nun of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate was kidnapped last night, February 7, in Koutiala, in the south of Mali. "We do not know who the kidnappers are. The Gendarmerie and the police are investigating. The Bishops are also in the area to get information", says to Fides Fr. Edmond Dembele, Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Mali. "The area where the religious woman was kidnapped is a quiet area and that is what is surprising. That area of the Country has not yet been touched by the insecurity that affects other areas of Mali", says the priest, who confirms the Colombian nationality of the religious woman kidnapped.
Around 9 pm, a group of armed men broke into the parish of Karangasso in Koutiala, kidnapped the nun and run away with the car of the parish. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 08/02/2017)
