Tuxtla Gutierrez (Agenzia Fides) - The Mexican Caritas Archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutierrez has just inaugurated the first "counseling center" which aims to offer a safe space to accompany and assist the victims of violence in a comprehensive manner.
According to the statement sent to Fides, Caritas, with the support of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral (CEPS), has offered an integral accompaniment for more than a year to the building of peace to those people who suffer some form of violence. Following this path, aware of the need for adequate space for this activity, Caritas has therefore opened a counseling center, entrusting it to a group of religious, lay people and volunteers, some of whom trained in psychology, social work, law or other social sciences. Also the involvement of students interested in the project of Theology of the University of Chiapas, "Juan Pablo II" (UCACH) is included, so that they can learn the ways of accompanying victims of violence.
On the occasion of the inauguration of the center, a five-day course was held on the first training and approach to social transformation and peace-building, with the presentation of listening methodologies and comprehensive support, which was attended by over 25 people from from different parishes.
