Lorengachora (Agenzia Fides) - The Health Center of Lorengachora, Uganda, has celebrated the first patient who had been diagnosed with multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and has been declared clinically cured after two years of therapy. This is one of the many results which Doctors with Africa Cuamm brings home. In the fall of 2014, in fact, Cuamm’s aim was to eradicate the disease in the Karamoja region, with the support of FAI (Fondation Assistance Internationale) and the Support Group - Matany Hospital of Milan. The multidrug-resistant tuberculosis is a disease that spreads easily, particularly in crowded environments, but above all, is slow and difficult to cure. According to reports from Cuamm, the patients identified so far are 13 throughout the region: they are cared for at home. The organization intervenes in all stages: provides transport, controls the availability of drugs and supervises local staff. At the beginning it also took care of providing food to patients in treatment who could not provide for themselves. Then the national government agreed to take charge of this aspect.
