Shi Jia Zhuang (Agenzia Fides) - Pope Francis’ wish and hope for the people who are preparing to celebrate the Lunar New Year, is that families "become more and more a school where you learn to respect each other, communicate and take care of one another selflessly", he said after the Angelus on Sunday 22 January (see Fides 23/01/2017), reflect the particular pastoral commitment of the Chinese Catholic community in this period. As every year in view of the new year, in every parish and community the path of love, of sharing, of mercy and attention towards the most vulnerable groups is especially intense.
According to information sent to Agenzia Fides, on 19 and 20 January some priests in Beijing, together with volunteers of Jinde Charities, visited dozens of poor families in the mountain areas of the Cheng De City, in the province of He Bei, where they administered the sacraments and delivered traditional gifts of this feast. In the parish of Bo Xing in the Diocese Zhou Cun, Shan Dong province, the Agape Group brought flour, oil, blankets and especially the support of their prayer to twenty poor families, Catholic and non-Catholics. In every Catholic family the visit started with a prayer and ended with the recitation of the rosary. Non-Catholic families are surprised and impressed by this special attention towards them, a sign of altruism and Christian joy.
Jinde Charities, the Chinese Catholic charitable organization with the longest history in the country, has recently published the report on its 2016 activities, from which we learn that "in the whole year 14.5 million yuan (equivalent to more than 2 million euro) were spent out of a total of 16 million Yuan (equivalent to 2.3 million Euros) collected. The main supported projects focused on aid for natural disasters, scholarships, seniors, families and poor areas". (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 26/01/2017)
