ASIA/INDIA - Resignation of the Bishop of Mysore, appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Today the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Mysore (India), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly. The Holy Father appointed rev. Kannikadass William Antony, of the clergy of Mysore, Pastor of St. Joseph's Church and spokesman (Public Relation Officer) of the same diocese as Bishop of the Diocese of Mysore.
Rev. Kannikadass William Antony was born on February 27, 1965 in Polibeta, in the Diocese of Mysore. He studied philosophy and theology at the St. Peter's Pontifical Seminary in Bangalore. He holds a Master in Canon Law in Bangalore, a Bachelor of Education and a Master's Degree in History of Christianity at the University of Mysore. He was ordained a priest on 18 May 1993.
Since his ordination he has served the following roles: 1993-1994: Parish Vicar of St. Thomas Church in Thomayarpalayam; 1994-1995: Assistant priest at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Martalli; 1995-1996: Parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gundlupet; 1996-1998: Studies in Canon Law in Bangalore; 1998-2003: Pastor of the Holy Family Church in Hinkal, Mysore; 2003-2009: Chancellor and Bursar of the Diocese of Mysore; 2009-2015: Pastor of St. Joseph's Cathedral and Dean of Mysore; 2015: Pastor of St. Joseph's Church in Jayalakshmipuram and Secretary of Mysore Diocesan Educational Society.
He is a member of the College of Consultors and Defender of the Bond at the Diocesan Tribunal, as well as spokespersons (Public Relation Officer) of the same diocese. He is part of many other foundations and church institutions. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 25/01/2017)
