The campaign, called "Wheelchairs for the poorest of the poor", was founded in 1999 when Hans decides to help disabled people. In 2001 he starts the Program which, so far, has helped improve the lives of over 26,000 people with disabilities in different Countries: Sri Lanka, Serbia, Malaysia, Romania, Turkey, Rwanda, Congo, Kenya, Afghanistan, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Bolivia and Peru. It has distributed, among other things, wheelchairs, walkers, prostheses for the lower limbs and crutches.
According to the note sent to Fides, this Campaign is carried out through 10 Diocesan Caritas, which are responsible for pre-selecting the beneficiaries. Thanks to the Program, Caritas Peru, has so far helped over 6,000 disabled people and in poverty. This year the distribution will be made in each of the Diocesan Caritas taking part.
