El Paso (Agenzia Fides) - A group of 30 Central American migrants were special guests of the "Posada Sin Fronteras", which was organized by the Diocese of El Paso (Texas) and Las Cruces (New Mexico), last weekend.
To look for "Posada" (inn, accommodation) is a typical representation of Mexican tradition at Christmas time, and consists of symbolically asking accommodation and food to someone, recalling the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph in the days before the birth of Jesus. Those who participate pray, sing and eat together.
Migrants "pilgrims" looked for "posada" together with the Bishop of El Paso, His Exc. Mgr. Mark Seitz, and the Bishop of Las Cruces, His Exc. Mgr. Oscar Cantu, and turned to various charities that marched through the streets of the city. After singing and praying they were greeted at the Annunciation House and Rock House Cafe.
"I am happy to report that a bus with 30 people arrived at the Annunciation House who were entrusted to our care by the immigration authorities", said Ruben Garcia, director of the Annunciation House.
"As Catholics we are ready to continue to help our brothers who are in need of food, clothes and sleep, these days are very important to help those who need us", said Mgr. Seitz in welcoming migrants who listened carefully.
The commitment of the Catholic community was also highlighted by the presence of Bishop Oscar Cantu.
According to the note sent to Fides by Annunciation House, about 500 migrants who need food, clothing and shelter will be coming to El Paso this Christmas-New Year period. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 20/12/2016)
