Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - "We must set the many political prisoners free. It is necessary for the government to act in this way, because they are unjustly detained. The Church will not renounce to dialogue and it is in its spirit to continue this way, but one has to fulfill the agreements signed in November. This is what Cardinal Pietro Parolin said in the letter sent to the government", highlighted Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, Archbishop of Caracas.
"The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference and the Bishops are in tune with Pope Francis, and all want to support efforts to find solutions to the constitutional crisis", he said in a brief meeting with the press to comment on the words of the deputy Diosdado Cabello against the letter of Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State.
"Cardinal Parolin, respectfully, indicated the conditions so that there is real dialogue: the release of political prisoners, the electoral timetable and respect for the National Assembly, among other things. Dialogue should be a tool to solve problems, and here the issues we have are very serious", concluded Cardinal Urosa.
Yesterday there were moments of tension among the parties, and both the government and the opposition had separate contacts with mediators, including His Exc. Mgr. Claudio Maria Celli. At the end of the day it was decided to resume dialogue, all together, setting the date of 13 January. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 07/12/2016)
