Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - They were thousands who participated in the march under the slogan "One step for my family", national demonstration organized for the closing of the Jubilee of Mercy, which was held yesterday. The march, convened by the Catholic Church, positively shocked the city for the massive turnout of participants from all over the country.
Thousands of people, all together, repeated the slogan of the event: "Without family there is no society", led by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, along with Bishops and priests. The Catholic Church asked to work in the field of education and promotion of the values to strengthen marriage and family as the main pillars of Dominican society.
"I imagine that each one of you come from a family, therefore, you should respect it, support it and strengthen it. Especially in a country that has its dynamism founded on it", said the Nuncio before the start of the Mass, at the end of the march. During the homily, the Bishop of the diocese of San Juan de la Maguana, His Exc. Mgr. Jose Dolores Grullon Estrella, as Vice President of the Dominican Episcopal Conference, expressed the need to highlight, promote and live Christian human values and to build a better society.
"We appeal to all civil organizations and the Government on the care that one should have in promoting the family, with policies and opportunities" the Bishop said, condemning those who want to promote an ideology that seeks to destroy the family.
According to local media, it was the largest, civil and religious demonstration held so far in the country. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 21/11/2016)
