Melbourne (Agenzia Fides) - The annual meeting of the Catholic Mission with the Appeal for Children, to raise funds for needy children who live in poor communities around the world, this year aims to help a child in the Philippines. We are talking about a young girl who lives in Tondo, one of the poorest areas in Manila.
Subject to a severe form of malnutrition, she is particularly susceptible to tuberculosis, highly contagious given the insane hygienic conditions in Tondo. Every day, she goes to the medical clinic run by Sister Susan Imperio and the Canossian Sisters on foot accompanied by her grandmother and brother, reads the note sent to Fides. The nuns follow one of the few tuberculosis treatment and prevention programs in the region, and offer all the medical check-ups. "A small contribution, says the National Director, Father Brian Lucas, can help change a life". (AP) (Agenzia Fides 16/11/2016)
