Cuahutemoc (Agenzia Fides) - 50 mothers of disappeared young migrants will begin their XII Caravan. The Caravan starts today, November 15, from La Mesilla, Ciudad Cuahutemoc, a city at the center of the Mexican state of Chihuahua, which is considered the gateway to the Sierra Tarahumara region. From here the Caravan will travel 11 states and 30 cities.
This year the initiative, which celebrates 12 years, always in the sign of hope and testimony, has chosen the slogan "Buscamos vida en caminos de muerte" (Let us find life through the streets of death) and is in memory of Berta Caceres , Honduran environmentalist murdered on 3 March.
The journey of the Caravan this year can also be followed on the internet, thanks to the collaboration of Mesoamerican Migrant Movement that supports the initiative. The Carovan will end on December 3 in Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, where a ceremony will take place along the river, in Tapa Chula. The Caravan will travel through various cities: Comitan, San Cristobal, Villahermosa, Cordoba-Veracruz, San Luis Potosi, Mexico City and Puebla.
Part of the caravan started on November 10 and has already covered a few countries in Central America, such as Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua, but the journey in Mexico is the decisive one, because at the border migrants are targeted by traffickers, criminal networks, "coyotes" groups, etc.
The purpose of the Caravan is to attract the attention of national and international media to give voice to mothers who make up this caravan of complaint. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 15/11/2016)
