Luque (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops of Paraguay who gathered in the city of Luque for their ordinary Assembly, discussed various issues affecting the country and called on all Paraguayans and State authorities to examine the current situation with particular regard to the presence of drug trafficking in politics.
"We launch an appeal to the population, and in particular to the authorities, so that they reflect on the various issues that we face in these modern times" reads the statement of the Bishops' Conference of Paraguay (CEP) published on 9 November.
The document, sent to Fides, expresses "concern over the apparent and active presence of drug trafficking in society and in the political sphere". The Bishops call for "an urgent moral health of the nation" which in their opinion "is everyone's responsibility". They highlight that the State institutions of Paraguay are seriously compromised.
The statement expresses the first conclusions of 213th Ordinary Plenary Assembly of CEP, which opened on Monday, 7 and will close today, Friday, November 11. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 11/11/2016)
