Chia Yi (Fides) - Children are the future and Catholic children need sound religious formation with the help of parents, teachers and catechists if they are to fulfil the mission which awaits them. According to Tai Pei diocesan bulletin Christian Life Weekly, aware of the importance of catechism for children Chia Yi diocese has always given great attention to the Christian formation of children and qualified pastoral workers. Besides children’s Mass and Oratory, Sunday School is an important place for the formation of children. For some years the diocese has offered courses for Sunday Schools teachers. Docents and student teachers are carefully selected to ensure the quality of catechism and Sunday School activity. Catechists training courses are organised in three grades, primary, secondary and higher for a total 144 hours. On completing the course, directed by a professor of the faculty of Religious Sciences at Fu Ren Catholic University, students receive a diocesan diploma. One teacher said “as Sunday School teachers we must open our hearts to children and love them, because loving is more important than teaching. In fact the purpose of Sunday School is to teach children to love God and all people”. (Agenzia Fides 10/11/2005 Righe: 18 Parole: 239)
