Coro (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishop of the Diocese of Coro, His Exc. Mgr. Roberto Lückert, gave a long interview to Venezuelan newspaper "El Impulso" in which he thanked the Vatican delegation and noted that it "will realize the serious situation that Venezuela lives: the anguish of the population before the lack of food and medicine, the persecution and imprisonment for political dissidents, the suspension of the referendum".
In the interview, sent to Fides, the Bishop says: "The government has to change its way of exercising power: now all those who protest are considered enemies, are brought to jail, thrown in sties, where human rights are trampled". "The problem of those who are in government is that they are afraid of losing power. Unfortunately, the picture they have at the moment is not Venezuela, but the fear of going to jail. There are containers full of drugs at customs, sent to Caritas, which cannot be taken. These medications must be delivered to the parishes".
Mgr. Lückert appreciates the efforts made by Pope Francis to try to bring the two sides to agree on two or three points, and "one of these must be the referendum, which should arrive at the table of dialogue as the most important fact for the Venezuela". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 07/11/2016)
