Mumbai (Agenzia Fides) - Catholic activists call for the closure of a blasphemous resto-pub towards Christian faith: as stated in a note sent to Fides, movements like the Catholic Secular Forum (CSF) and the Maharashtra Christian Youth Forum (MCYF) denounced the "Goregaon Social" pub to the police as there is furniture and imagery that some community members claim are offensive to their religious sentiments.
Activists say they found a huge chandelier in the pub, with images of the Pope, with the cross, "with deliberate blasphemous intention". "Why put Catholic images in a place that sells alcohol? What would have happened if any other religion or clergy was mocked and ridiculed, abusing them for business purposes?".
Activists complain of having called the police authorities, but with no results. After the complaint the owners apologized but did not remove the imagery from the pub. This is why it calls for its closure and for the intervention of the authorities. "Justice is denied to the Christian community, given that the police and the authorities, through their inaction, in fact, seem to support the guilty", concludes the CSF.
